Onwards, mighty saplings! A prayer for year six on leaving primary school.

A prayer for Year Six as you leave primary school.

You are our hope; the seeds faithfully planted in the before-times, lovingly nurtured but hardened off by the harsh micro-climate of lockdown. What tales you will tell of these years and what gifts you have unexpectedly been given. Resilience and strength and a hardy realism that understands the worst can happen but we have the power to weather the storm. You have developed foundations that go deep and will not be easily uprooted. When we adults despaired and sometimes fell apart you kept your good spirits. You adapted quicker than we did. You complained less than us. Kids, we are in awe of you! We ask for God’s continued protection as you start to leave childhood behind and take your first steps into a world that has changed beyond all recognition. We ask for safety and courage in these uncertain times. We ask for the freedom for you to grow strong but flexible. We pray for a world where you are not burdened by restrictions but can spread out your branches and feel free. Heavenly parent of us all and great gardener of creation, water our saplings with your loving grace and help them to grow wise and well, with your blessing of protection upon them. Go well, little saplings! God is delighted in you and is cheering you on. Amen.
